WINTER SANDLAND IN NEW MEXICO

The kids are ready to play in the snow, but in parts of the country it’s still too early to break out the sled. Solution? Head to the lunar expanses of gypsum sand known as White Sands National Monument.

Hiking, biking, and camping are great ways to spend the day. But sledding down the dunes is the real show-stopper. Buy a sled from the visitor center and find the steepest dune around. You and the kids won't miss snow at all.
