DANCE OF CRANES
Graceful cranes come to life and take flight from the ethereal gardens of a courtesan’s swirling kimono in Haruyo Morita’s “Dance of Cranes.” Rigorously training to be a kimono painter with design master, Hasuki, Morita studied Japanese art and kimono design, and combines these disciplines with a Western-influenced technique. Drawing from the style, flamboyance and drama of traditional Kabuki theater, her luminous, elegant work also contains many culturally symbolic elements.
