WATER LILIES

Claude Monet’s art is much lauded as the epitome of Impressionism. Frustrated with the restrictions of traditional art, Monet (1840-1925) moved to Paris in 1859. There he, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Camille Pissaro laid the foundations for Impressionism, often painting outdoors. Monet’s soothingly tranquil series of water lilies continues to powerfully influence abstract artists and capture the essence of atmospheric beauty.
